How It Works
Booking a safari through Tuskari is straightforward. You find a verified operator, book directly with them, and skip the middlemen who usually take a cut.
Here's exactly how it works.
1. Browse Safaris
Every safari on Tuskari is listed by the operator who actually runs it.
You'll see their full itinerary, what's included, where you'll stay, and how much it costs. No hidden fees. No vague descriptions. If a lodge isn't confirmed yet, they'll tell you. If the price changes based on group size, you'll see the breakdown.
You can filter by country, experience type, budget, and duration. Or you can browse operator profiles to see who's running safaris in the areas you're interested in.
Each listing shows photos from the actual safari, written by the people who guide it. This isn't stock imagery or corporate copy. It's the real thing.
2. Two Ways to Book
Depending on the safari, you'll either book instantly or send an enquiry first.
Instant Booking
Some safaris have fixed itineraries and confirmed availability. These can be booked immediately.
You choose your dates, add the number of guests, and pay. Your booking is confirmed right away, and the operator receives your details.
This works well for scheduled group departures or standard safaris where availability is predictable.
Even with instant booking, you can message the operator beforehand if you have questions. Nothing is locked until you pay.
Enquiry Flow
Other safaris require confirmation before booking. Usually these are custom experiences, luxury safaris, or trips that depend on lodge availability.
Here's how it works:
- You fill in your preferred dates, number of guests, and any specific requests or questions.
- Your enquiry goes directly to the operator.
- The operator reviews it and responds with a personalised quote.
- You can accept the quote, decline it, or ask for adjustments.
- Once you accept, you're taken straight to checkout.
This process keeps things flexible. The operator can confirm availability, adjust pricing for your group size, or suggest alternative dates if needed. You're not locked into anything until you both agree.
3. Message the Operator
Whether you're booking instantly or sending an enquiry, you can message operators directly through the platform.
Ask about dietary requirements, accessibility needs, specific wildlife you want to see, or whether you should bring certain gear. The operator responds directly. No middleman interpreting your questions or filtering their answers.
All messages stay in your account, so you have a clear record of what was discussed.
4. Pay Securely
When you're ready to book, you'll pay through Tuskari's secure payment system.
Here's the payment structure:
- 30% deposit to secure your booking
- 70% balance due 30 days before your safari starts
You can choose to pay the full amount upfront if you prefer.
All payments are processed securely. We don't store your full card details. Your payment information is encrypted and handled through industry-standard payment processors.
What the price includes:
Every price you see on Tuskari includes a conservation and local community contribution. This supports the sustainable tourism practices that keep these destinations intact.
You're not paying separate platform fees or booking charges. The price you see is the price you pay.
5. Manage Your Booking
Once you've booked, everything lives in your Tuskari account.
You can:
- View your itinerary and booking details
- Message your operator with questions or changes
- Access important documents (if the operator provides them)
- Track payment status and upcoming balance due dates
If you need to make changes to your booking, you work directly with the operator through the messaging system. They'll let you know if changes are possible and whether any additional costs apply.
6. Cancellations and Refunds
Tuskari has a clear cancellation policy:
45 or more days before your safari: Full refund
Less than 45 days before your safari: No refund
If something extraordinary happens (natural disasters, border closures, serious emergencies), we review cancellations on a case-by-case basis.
Refunds are processed within 5 to 10 business days and returned to your original payment method.
If the operator needs to cancel your safari for any reason, you get a full refund regardless of timing.
7. Your Safari Happens
This is the part where you actually go on safari.
The operator handles everything from here. They'll send you joining instructions, pickup details, and any last-minute information you need.
When you arrive, you're working with the same people you've been messaging. They know your name, they know what you've asked for, and they've planned accordingly.
After your safari, you'll have the option to leave a review. These reviews help other travellers make informed decisions and give operators feedback on what's working.
What Makes This Different
You're booking direct.
No travel agency in London or New York is taking 25% and passing your booking down a chain. The operator sets the price. You pay the operator. Simple.
Operators stay in control.
They manage their own availability, set their own pricing, and communicate directly with you. We don't interfere with how they run their safaris.
You get clarity.
There's no vague "contact us for pricing" or "rates subject to change." Everything is transparent. If something isn't confirmed, the operator will tell you upfront.
More money stays in Africa.
When you book through Tuskari, the operators keep more of what you pay. That means better wages for guides, better equipment, and more resources to invest in conservation and local communities.
It's not charity. It's just fairer economics.
Who This Works For
If you want a standard safari with fixed dates, instant booking gets you confirmed quickly.
If you're planning something custom or high-end, the enquiry flow lets you work out the details before committing.
If you value direct communication, you'll appreciate talking to the actual operator instead of a call centre.
If you care where your money goes, you'll like knowing more of it stays with the people doing the work.
